Today MS Office SharePoint server is becoming a most widely used enterprise application as companies seek to enhance collaboration across enterprises but an increased dependence on the platform means it’s very difficult to establish and maintain SharePoint database.

Sometimes Organization that uses SharePoint suffer with some problems like SharePoint Database get corrupted & we can not access our database .As every one knows very well to prevent our database from corruption we should have updated backup or we should knowledge about inbuilt recovery tools so if we want to restore SharePoint database from backup or we want to recover our SharePoint data then we must understand its backup & inbuilt tools first.

SharePoint has two features to guard against accidental deletion of data:

version history , a recycle bin both are big themes with SharePoint backup and recovery.

SharePoint’s recycle bin has an additional safety net in the form of an administrator-accessible Site Collection Recycle Bin.

Both versioning and the recycle bin have some shortcomings like they don’t address other types of data loss, such as errors or corruption. Also, if an entire document library is deleted.

Native tools: SharePoint offers two native tools:

First is a command-line tool stsadm.exe for backup that performs a site-level full-fidelity backup. Command-line utilities run from the local server and are prone to human error. Native tools have some shortcomings like IIS metabase can’t be protected with the command-line utility, indexing is suspended while the command-line backup executes, which means that anything new added to SharePoint during this time isn’t available for search until after the job is complete.

Second native tool for backup and restore is the Central Administration user interface. This approach lets the backup be performed for the whole farm down to the content database. and provides a choice of full or differential schemes but scheduling backup jobs isn’t possible in this tool and retention management is a manual process.

SQL Server backup: SQL Server backups is another popular approach to protecting SharePoint content. This approach also have some drawbacks like it will leave some SharePoint components unprotected, including IIS meta data, Web front-end data and search indexes.

Commercial solutions: Third-party backup and recovery tool is another solution to get back your data, especially to address the limitations in the native utilities and SQL backup method.
